The forest area along the Drava River in the northern part of the City of Varaždin, located between the settlement of Banfica and the Drava River, i.e. the road bridges on the eastern and western sides, has been protected since July 2001 by the Nature Protection Act within the category of a forest park, and with the associated forest clearings it covers an area of ​​approximately 87 ha.

This forest area was placed under protection at the initiative of the Movement of Friends of Nature "Our Beautiful Country" - Varaždin, for which Emil Flajšman also prepared a professional basis for protection (Dravska park-šuma Elaborat, Varaždin 1996/1997). Legal protection prescribes a special approach when determining guidelines for the protection, arrangement and use, or management of the Park-šuma area. The diversity of flora and fauna is the main asset of the Forest-park and makes it interesting and attractive throughout the year.
