Monitoring the status of species

Systematic collection and processing of data on native wild species provides a better insight into the status of species, as well as the identification of threats they face, and contributes to better design of conservation measures that are prescribed as activities in strategic documents for the conservation of species and their habitats.

In order for the public to be involved in collecting data on species, the Institute for Environmental and Nature Protection (which operates within the ministry responsible for nature affairs) organizes annual monitoring campaigns for individual species, such as saproxylic beetles or springtails. Also, the second weekend of January each year is traditionally the time for the international Winter Waterfowl Count (IWC) campaign, organized by the Croatian Society for the Conservation of Birds and Nature, the Biom and Zeus Associations. Therefore, if you are a bird lover, follow the announcements on the pages https://www.biom.hr/ or https://priroda-vz.hr/ and join us!

All you need to do when you find one of the requested saproxylic beetle species (stag beetle, alpine beetle and large four-spotted strizibu) or a location where spring beetles are found is to send a photo of the species and the following information: location where you saw it/them, date you saw it/them, first and last name of the finder

Scan the QR code in case you find any of the requested species and report your find!
